In order to acclimatize, we decided to spend the day in Antananarivo, visiting the main monuments, the presidential palace and the market.

Antananarivo

We followed the walk recommended by the guide Lonely Planet. The market is very interesting from food to second (or third) hand clothes and shoes.

Our hostel Tana Jacaranda is comfortable and clean, it is very well located to visit the city center on foot, and the food they offer is quite good at a very good price. The croissants they make themselves are spectacular.

Before lunch we decided to take a taxi (a two-horsepowered 76 convertible) and visit the ancient capital of the Merina Ambohimanga kingdom. Sulufu (the taxi driver) is a very funny guy and in less than an hour we are there. Ambohimanga is a small place situated on the top of a hill from which we can enjoy spectacular views of the whole valley. We return to Tana at nightfall.

Dangers and warnings: following the advice of the accommodation and the indications in the Lonely, we do not go near the lake area or visit the city at night. If you want to do so, you must be accompanied by a local as Tana is not a safe town at nightfall.
