Ascent to the Respomuso refuge from the car park of the Sarra reservoir, located 4 km from the town of Sallent de Gállego in the Tena Valley.
Sarra resevoir
We start our route from the Sarra car park, an idyllic place to spend the night if you have a van, with tables and shade around a reservoir in a spectacular setting surrounded by mountains. There is a bar-restaurant, Asador La Sarra, which is open at weekends and in summer every day, specialising in grilled meats.

Follow the GR11 signs towards the refuge. The path enters a spectacular beech forest with several waterfalls.

Landscape
Waterfall
We arrive at a crossroads indicating the ascent to the Arriel peak, not to the lakes, which is important.
Crossroads
We continue to the Paso del Onso, a somewhat narrow pass with a waterfall that wets you as you pass.
Waterfall
We continue on until we reach a waterfall that crosses the entire path coming from the Arriel lakes (be careful with the flow). You have to cross the stones as there is no bridge, but it is easy.
Path
A little further on it warns us of the detour to the Ibones de Arriel (and ascent to Balaitús via the Gran Diagonal), which was initially the objective of our route but due to the gusts of more than 85 km/hour that we have we have given up and we will climb up to the refuge.
Path
Path
We continue and the gorge opens up until we reach a chapel and the dam of the Respomuso lake.
Respomuso lake
The views of the refuge, the Gran Facha and the cirque are spectacular.
Respomuso refuge
We approached the refuge and had a beer, a beautiful place and very friendly people.
Bench
After going around the lake we return along the same path back to La Sarra.
