We invite you to share our little escape to the country of chocolate and cuckoo clocks that together with its banking and financial industry are some of its best known aspects. If you are passionate about nature and outdoor activities such as mountaineering or skiing this is your destination.

Visa

European Union citizens do not require a visa for stays of less than 90 days. For more information, please consult the website.

Money

The official currency is the Swiss Franc (CHF) although Euros are widely accepted. There are ATMs throughout the country and credit cards are accepted in all establishments.

Language

Four official languages are spoken in Switzerland: German, French, Italian and Romansh, depending on the canton you are in, although English is spoken almost everywhere.

Transport

Public transport in Switzerland works perfectly although this time we rented a vehicle for six people.
You do not need an international driving licence, the one from your EU country is valid if it is in force. Rental vehicles normally carry a special sticker to enable them to travel on the motorways, check that this is the case if you do not ask for it or if you are travelling with your car you can buy it at the main border posts.
Bus information on Eurolines and for Rail Europe and Swiss Federal Railways trains.

Accommodation

Switzerland is a rather expensive country so booking in advance is very important. However, the accommodation we recommend is good value for money and includes breakfast, especially in Basel.

Gastronomy

Eating in Switzerland is expensive but there are supermarket chains like MIGROS which sell ready-made food and even have tables to eat it, which is much cheaper.
Cheese and chocolate are two of their main dishes, so be sure to try them in all their versions.

Health and Safety

Before you travel it is advisable to have travel insurance. If you are an EU citizen, the European Health Insurance Card is valid.
