Ascent to Teide peak from Portillo, Teide National Park.

It was a long night, we had a 4-legged, long-tailed companion who gave us a bit of a hard time. A rat had entered the unguarded shelter at the smell of my almonds and it took a long time before we could get it out.
Sunrise
At 4.30 am we set off towards our goal of reaching the summit of Mount Teide to see the sunrise.
Before leaving, a guy from Zaragoza arrives at the refuge who comes from the beach almost with hypothermia and stays resting on the bunk beds.
We leave the refuge and start to see the first lights of the headlamps, it is completely dark so it is essential to have a headlamp and warm clothes. Today the gusts of wind are quite strong.
Teide
We walk to the area known as la Rambleta where you can take path no. 11 to the viewpoint of la Fortaleza or path no. 10 Telesforo Bravo to the summit.
We take path no. 10, with more and more people coming together to climb. From La Rambleta (where the top station of the cable car is located) the path is usually controlled during the peak hours when the cable car is in operation and access is only allowed with permission. At 5.30 am there is no one to ask for permission.

Already at the top of the summit the sun starts to rise, a sunny day that we will never forget, one of the most beautiful sunrises we have ever seen. Wonderful.
It smells of sulphur and we have to remember that Teide is a volcano and it is alive.
We descend along the same path to La Rambleta. The path is very simple and well groomed.
From here you can choose to descend by the path no. 9 that goes to Pico Viejo or by cable car. Next to the station there is a small room where you can stay for the night, it fits 2 or 3 people approx.

To ride the cable car you have to buy tickets online through the Volcano Teide website (you have a free wiki next to the station) and the ride down alone costs €23/pax.
Whether you go down by cable car or on foot along path no. 9, TITSA has buses that cross the park and take you back to the visitors' centre El Portillo.
If you go down by cable car, the bar-restaurant is quite expensive, American coffee 2.60€, pincho de tortilla 4€.

Remember that for this type of trek you need to prepare your backpack well, sun cream, water, warm clothes, comfortable shoes, sleeping bag, headlamp, first aid kit and food are some of the essentials you should not forget.
