Valjarto and Mediodía peaks
How to get there
To reach the town of Maraña in León from Riaño, follow the CL635 road and take the turning to the left after Acebedo.
If you are coming from Puerto de Tarna, take the turn-off to the right before reaching Acebedo.
Maraña
Description
We started our route from the town of Maraña in León.
We set off early due to the forecast of heavy storms. We take a path heading east towards the meadows of Mampodre, the track is wide and goes around the Acebal forest.
After about a kilometre and a half we leave the track for another on our left that leads us to a meadow where we gradually start to climb.
Mampodre massif
Behind us Peña Ten, in front of us the glacial cirque of Mampodre. Impressive.
We walk along a small path that gets lost in the grass and we gain height until we reach the channel that leads us to the Valjarto pass.
Peña Ten
From the pass we take a path (sometimes a little lost) to the right to gradually climb upwards until we reach the summit.
From the summit the views of the Mediodía peak are brutal. We started the descent towards Mediodía along a small ridge where we could lay our hands. Passing the ridge we had to turn back, suddenly everything was covered, rain was imminent. A pity, we will come back!
We descended the same way back to Maraña.
