We leave Burgos at 4:00 in the morning directly to the Adolfo Suarez Barajas International Airport. We fly with Avianca. It is common to read in the forums that Avianca is not a suitable company if you have to make another connection as it normally suffers delays, this time our flight was direct to Bogota so the two and a half hours delay did not cause us much trouble.
After 10 hours of flight we arrived at the International Airport of Bogota el Dorado, we went through the customs control and took out money. As we are Spanish citizens, no visa is required for stays of less than 90 days.
We were very tired so we decided to take a taxi. The cheapest option to get to the city is the Transmilenio, Bogota does not have a metro and this bus tries to supply it but in a city of 10 million people the bus network is small.
Zona G Bogota
It is important to remember that we have to be very careful in big cities so we recommend taking an official taxi (they are in the arrival area within the airport). You can opt for the Imperial Taxi company, although we didn't do it as they only had vans available and we were three people. The difference in price was also considerable as they asked us for 70,000 COP/trip.
Our taxi driver is very nice, he takes us to our accommodation that we had previously booked by booking in the Zona G. It's a very quiet and beautiful neighborhood, essential for a first contact with the city.
In Bogotá the safest areas to stay are north of 65th street like the Zona G, Chapinero or the Zona Rosa. They are cheaper in La Candelaria (downtown) but at night the security is visibly reduced. However, in the Zona G and Chapinero it is possible to find accommodation at affordable prices.
Bogota
We stay at the Hotel Boutique Zona G, the location is excellent and the room and breakfast as well.
In the hotels in Colombia there is a 19% VAT supplement only for Colombian citizens. In our accommodation we were assured that we would be refunded the tax at the airport and this was not true, as it does not meet the requirements of the DIAN's VAT refund (Decree 1625 of 2016). Hotels and restaurants, among other goods, are not included in this list, which is for purchases in establishments with credit cards for amounts over 331,560 COP, similar to the conditions of the Schengen Agreement.
As it was the last day, we could not claim back to the hotel, so we did it to Booking who replied quickly and efficiently, returning the amount we should not have paid and a supplement to compensate for the disorder.
We have dinner in Oliveto pizzas, close to the hostel. Delicious pizzas.
