We have met in the Cantabrian town of Val de San Viciente with the SUPdreamers team to enjoy a morning paddle surfing or stand up paddle (SUP).
Tina Menor estuary
We will do it in an exceptional environment, the Tina Menor estuary crossed by the river Nansa.
The origins of SUP go back to Hawaii, just like surfing, this way of sliding has been used as transport or fishing for thousands of years in the Pacific.
This sport is easy to learn and suitable for all ages. You just need to be willing to practice and have fun and not be afraid of the water. There are several modalities such as wave SUP, race SUP or cross country SUP among others.
Tina Menor estuary
We start in the river Nansa. The company SUPdreamers provides all the necessary equipment, a board, a paddle and a wetsuit, and includes insurance.
It is not a dangerous area, it is suitable for beginners and takes about two hours to complete.
Us
At the beginning it is a bit difficult to get used to not losing your balance, but the area is calm. We go against the current, the tide is rising and at first it's a bit difficult. We jump into the water, sometimes we fall in... it's great fun.
We go along the Tina Menor estuary to its mouth, turquoise blue waters surrounded by high mountains with thick vegetation. It is beautiful.
Sable Beach
We approach the mouth where the Sable beach is located and the current is strong. There are beginning to be considerable waves. It is amazing.
The Sable beach can only be accessed via the estuary or the sea. We leave our board on the beach to visit the Jergos cave, only accessible at low tide. Very nice.
Sable Beach
This part of the beach overlooks the sea, spectacular the roar of the waves and the solitude that this place offers. Wonderful.
We take the board again and return to the point of origin, now it takes less time as the current favours us.
Estuary
A very enjoyable experience in an incomparable setting.
Pechon is a beautiful Cantabrian village located on the peninsula formed by the rivers Nansa (Tina Menor) and Deva (Tina Mayor) as they flow into the Cantabrian Sea. A small paradise surrounded by lush vegetation.
Views from the viewpoint
Amio beach is one of beaches I like most. I have been coming here since I was a child and it has never lost its charm. We advise you to leave your car in the village and walk down to the beach because, although there are parking areas, there are not many parking spaces.
Pechon
Amio Beach
Amio beach is a small cliffy beach. It has a shower and a beach bar. The magic of this place of fine golden sand is that when the tide is low, a tongue of sand is formed that allows you to reach the rocks, leaving a quieter area with almost no waves and another wilder one.
Amio Beach
When the tide rises, the tongue of sand disappears and the two parts join together to form incredible waves.
Tina Menor
In Pechon you can find bars and restaurants such as the El Castril restaurant, excellent croquetas, chipirones, sardines or chorizo in cider, delicious desserts, good value for money, or the El Ancla/Ceto restaurant with grilled meat and fish.
Amio Beach
The campsite Las Arenas is on the outskirts, has a swimming pool and direct access to the beach of Las Arenas. The food is very good, the black rice is incredible. As it is located in a cliff area, the views are spectacular.
Tip: from the viewpoint of Pechon you have spectacular views of the Tina Menor.
SUP: SUPdreamers 30€/pax, approximately two hours crossing Sable beach in Tina Menor.
